Used Ram 1500
There are tons of things that one could tell by inspecting the engine and the interior of your Used Ram 1500. Dealers let you inspect whatever you want before you make the transaction, so it's best to take full advantage of that. Make sure the engine is cool before you start digging.
Check the Engine
Watch out for oil splattered underneath the engine compartment. Other things to look out for include a battery that is slowly corroding and among other things hoses and wires that hang loose. Next up, see the rubber belts aligned next to the radiator, air conditioner etc., and squeeze them. If it is in good condition, the rubber will feel firm but not hard.
When checking the radiator, it's important that you check the plastic reservoir that is linked by a rubber hose to the radiator. The coolant needs to be greenish or orange, not milky white or rusty.
Move on to the battery. Open the filler caps and check the electrolyte level. If the level is low, it means the battery has been working way too hard. However, a mechanic can always check the charging system for you.
An average driver does not possess the knowledge of where the fluids are located. However, the owner's manual will direct you to this. Generally, the transmission fluid needs to be pinkish in color, brown color accompanied by a burnt smell indicates that something's wrong with the engine.
Check the Interior
When looking at the interior, smell it first. Take a sniff the first time you open the door. A mildew sort of smell means there are water leaks in the car. Next, you must take out the floor mats and look for wet spots there. Some smells are really hard to get rid of so if you don't like it don't buy it.
Check the seats, this is important if you will have an infant onboard with you. Make sure there is enough space for the child seat.
Check the sunroof. Stains are proof of water leaking from the sun roof and ill fitting doors and windows.
