Used Dodge Ram 1500
One would want to change the oil as soon as they would hear how used oil ends up once it is, well, used. Dirty oil possesses no traces of additives as they already boil out, the contaminants eat at the metal and eat away at the parts that are supposed to be protected by the engine, and the water that collects forms a gunk like sludge with the oil.
However, just because the oil has changed its color to black does not render it useless. Oil turns black a couple of days after it has been used. Most people will tell you that you need to change your oil at a reasonable interval of time but then again what really is a reasonable time interval anyway.
Change The Oil In Extreme Operating Conditions
Your used Dodge Ram 1500 will only incur these extreme conditions when you do a lot of stops and go driving like you do in a city during rush hour traffic. Or another extreme condition case would be if you make tons of short trips every day and maybe even turn off your engine between them long enough that it cools down. This is because then your engine barely gets warm enough to evaporate the water that is present in the crankcase and this water helps build the sludge.
Another extreme condition is when you drive your Dodge Ram 1500 in areas with a lot of blowing dust or dirt or you are using your vehicle to tow and haul heavy loads most of the time. These are factors that render your car to have an oil change every 2000 to 3000 miles.
The 7500 Mile Change
Usually the manufacturers label will tell you to change the oil every 7500 miles. This is not wrong either. Your 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 will require an oil change after that duration when you are driving it under optimum conditions.
Improvements in motor oil have, however, extended the efficiency, but to be on the safe side you need to change the oil according to the manufacturer's instructions when not driving in extreme conditions.
