Every car owner must have faced the common problem of brake failure. Brakes that fail can have fatal consequences in most situations. Almost every year, countries have huge records of accidents, and so many precious lives are lost because of brake failures. However, not everyone is able to figure out the actual cause, but we at Kelly CDJR are dealers in used cars and we have the right knowledge on every part of a car. So let's look at some of the common brake failure causes.
#1 Poor Anti Lock Systems
People say that having poor anti lock systems doesn't affect the brakes of the car, but this is a myth. The fact is that your vehicles brake can fail because of any reason and situation, the only difference is that the probability of failure for each cause may differ.
#2 Overheating Is a Cause
Overheating in vehicles occurs due to many reasons like aggressive or rash driving, driving on hilly areas, sharply applying the brakes on timed intervals, or braking frequently on long roads. What happens is the heat moves to the linings of the brake, and the brake system makes an effort to gain sufficient pressure to maintain a balance in the braking strength and the friction. This problem in cars is known as brake fluid or brake fade condition. When this happens, the brakes become firm and you will feel it when applying them, this will reduce the stopping rate of your car.
If the brakes heat up, the fluid in the brake container will also boil, creating a vacuum of steam and hinders the full efficiency of brakes. In such situations, you won't be able to apply the brakes abruptly, causing mishaps. In present times, this problem of overheating in brakes is common with automatic gear vehicles. The manual gear vehicles hardly face this problem. The best solution in such a scenario is to stop for sometime on the roadside and let the braking system cool down on its own.
#3 Leakages
A common cause of brake failures is the loss of fluid pressure in the braking system, mainly due to the frequent leakages. The hydraulic pressure is the main element that governs the functionality of car brakes and when it leaks, the loss in the pressure stops the brake from working efficiently. In such cases, the red light of the brake turns on and this works as a warning sign for you and it means you should stop driving with such a condition. Stop and check the intensity of the leakage, inspect it thoroughly and call an expert to help you with it. A common reason for fluid loss is due to rusted hoses and damaged rubber parts. This problem usually occurs in old cars, which have rust in their brake lines.
