If you’re seeking a heavy duty truck, you are obviously in need of some mega towing and hauling abilities. The 2015 Ram 2500 has you covered. Standard on the Ram 2500 is a 5.7-liter V8 engine paired to a six-speed automatic transmission that produces 383 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque. While this engine offers excellent power, there are two other engine options that may suit your needs even more: the 6.4-liter V8 and 6.7-liter turbocharged, diesel-fueled inline six-cylinder. The 6.4-liter V8 pairs to a six-speed automatic just as the 5.7-liter V8, but produces even more output at 410 horsepower and 429 pound-feet of torque. For not only excellent power, but true rip and roar sounds, the 6.7-liter turbocharged engine produces 350 horsepower and 660 pound-feet of torque when matched to a six-speed manual transmission; torque explodes to 800 with the six-speed automatic transmission.

What about tow rates? Here are some numbers. Depending on body style, the Ram 2500 can tow up to 13,870 pounds with the 5.7-liter V8 and 16,300 pounds with the 6.4-liter V8. The manual-equipped diesel manages 16,900 pounds, while the automatic transmission and diesel engine can pull 17,970 pounds.

When properly equipped, the Ram 2500 can also handle a generous payload for each engine. The 5.7-liter can carry 3,040 pounds, the 6.4-liter can handle 3,970, while the 6.7-liter manages 3,170.

But it’s not all just about the towing and hauling - even if that is a main selling point for those in need of a heavy-duty pickup. The lineup of the 2015 Ram 2500 is available in three body styles, three bed lengths and three trims. The most basic model is the Tradesman. Available in regular cab and crew cab, the Tradesman comes with automatic headlights, locking tailgate, cruise control and tilt steering wheel; wheels are 17-inch steel, and bumpers and grille are black. Electronics include a six-speaker stereo, USB/iPod integration, and auxiliary audio input. Also available to the Tradesman model is Work Grade heavy-duty vinyl upholstery, which is geared toward commercial users.

Coming in all three body styles, the SLT adds more to the Tradesman with chrome exterior trim, 18-inch steel wheels and integrated trailer brake controller. It also features heated mirrors, a power-sliding rear window, keyless entry, overhead console, cloth upholstery and full power accessories. Electronics gain Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity, five-inch touchscreen interface and satellite radio.

For top-of-the-line treatment, the Laramie model comes in crew cab and Mega cab. It features larger, 18-inch alloy wheels, projector headlights, LED taillights, dual-zone automatic climate control and driver memory settings. Upholstery is leather, front seats are heated and ventilated, and the steering wheel is heated, too. It also gains safety and tech upgrades with rear parking sensors, rearview camera and 10-speaker surround-sound audio system.
